Carnival Party

Carnival Party!!

Ok. Ok.. It's about time I did another post! This Summer my middle child really wanted a Carnival party so of course I scoured the web and found some great ideas I wanted to pull together and share with you!

When I think of carnival party my first thought was Cotton Candy and Sno Cones!!  I found some vintage style machines from Kohls for a reasonable price and really thought they added to the decor!  I decided to stick with a red, teal and white theme as they just seemed to be the colors this year for everything!!  LOL...

The picture above shows lollipops I made with a mold purchased at Amazon for like $2 and I used Wilton chocolate melts in the colors of our party to melt inside, you can purchase those at pretty much any craft store like Michaels or Joanns along with the little white sticks for pretty cheap!  I made Giant tissue paper flowers which I do have a tutorial on ( you'll have to scroll through my posts) and attached them to balloon sticks along with other balloons, the balloon sticks were purchased from Hobby Lobby!  The lollipop stand was a simple cardboard box covered in paper with little holes poked in the top for the lollipops and the glass jars were just small mason jars with some string and a little paper tag labeling them as lemonade!

More images up top show the decor.  We of course served your typical carnival food, hot dogs, popcorn and nachos! Nacho trays I found on amazon, the hot dog holders at target 2 for $1 and the popcorn holders at hobby lobby!~

We had lots of carnival games where the kids got to play and earn tickets they would later cash in for prizes which were their party favors, I purchased a big grab bag from oriental trading company and some other items from Halo Heaven for pretty cheap!  Some of our games were.... bowling, balloon pop, duck pond, bean bag toss, and ring toss.  Here are some more pictures of the games we played and the table of prizes set up for them to win!

I also had my mother paint an amazing photo prop station one with flowers you can see in a picture above and one of a popcorn stand and clowns we later used to take pictures of all the families who came and send it to them as their thank you card!  she made them all out of free boxes from Lowes... refrigerator and stove boxes work the best as they are pretty big!

Well I'm not much of a fancy writer but I hope you get the idea!!  If you have any questions please feel free to comment and ask!

Tissue Paper Flower Tutorial

Tissue Paper Flowers

I always have an abundance of tissue paper around my house from all the gift bags for baby showers and birthday parties for my kids.  I save everything always thinking it can be reused at some point!  So now with my giant stack of tissue paper I decided to make some tissue paper flowers to be used for an upcoming birthday party for my daughter.  They can also be used for wedding bouquets, decor or just a nice gift to brighten a friends day!  This project is so easy it would be fun to do with your kids as well!  These directions are for the flower shown in picture.  There are many variations to this flower you can make by doing different sized papers, cutting the ends differently etc so have fun with it... and please share pictures of your flowers when you're finished!!

The only supplies you will need is a pair of scissors, tissue paper, and a pipe cleaner or wire!!

To start, cut out 12 pieces of tissue paper 6.5 inches X 8.5 inches
Starting at one end fold about an inch in going back and forth creating a fan fold

After you have fan folded all the way to the end find the center by folding in half and making a crease.
Fold your pipe cleaner in half and put in the crease you just made, twist the end to tie off.
At this point I like to cut the ends to give it a petal shape.  You can round off the ends or cut them into points as I have done for this flower.
Now you may fan out the top to start the "fluffing" ;)
To fluff up start on one side and grab one piece of tissue paper at a time pulling it upwards, continue with each piece of tissue paper all the way through the one side.... the bottom pieces I like to pull in a downward motion to give it a fuller rounder look..

Now finish the other side doing the same thing as before... and you are done!! ;)

If you have any questions about any steps please email me at littlestwonders@yahoo.com! ;)
